Where do I find the model number on my Heatilator fireplace?

Where to look, in order

Every Heatilator carries a metal rating plate (also called a data plate or nameplate) stamped with the model number, serial number, and fuel type. Start with the most common spots: inside the firebox along one of the side walls, or behind the lower louver, grille, or trim panel at the bottom front of the unit. On some models it's on the inner frame or up under the top of the opening. On wood-burning units it may be toward the back of the firebox.

It's a permanent metal label, not a sticker that falls off — so if you can see it, you can read it. Snap a clear photo with your phone; that number is the key to the right parts and the correct manual.

What's safe to do yourself — and what isn't

Reading a label is not gas work, so you're fine to look, lift a removable louver, and take a picture. What we don't want you doing is pulling apart the burner, valve, pilot assembly, or any gas component to hunt for it — in North Carolina that's licensed work for a reason, and it's not worth the risk over a serial number. If the plate is hidden behind gas parts, leave it to us.

Why the number matters

That model number tells us the exact unit, its correct replacement parts, its clearances, and whether it's rated for something like a gas log set or an insert. Guessing wrong on a fireplace part isn't just wasteful — with anything gas-related, it's a safety issue.
