Why parts start with the model number

Heatilator makes many units across decades, and a part that fits one can be wrong for another. So the first step isn't shopping — it's reading the model and serial number off the metal rating plate (usually inside the firebox or behind the lower louver). With that number we can pin down the exact OEM part: the blower, the thermopile, the igniter, the valve, the glass, the logs. Guessing on a fireplace part wastes money and, on gas units, creates a safety problem.

Which parts you can handle — and which you can't

Some things are genuinely homeowner-simple: a remote, a battery pack, a decorative front, replacement firebrick on a wood unit. Others are not, and the law says so. In North Carolina, work on the gas valve, pilot assembly, burner, or the gas connection itself has to be done by a licensed gas contractor.
