Where should an outdoor fireplace go in my backyard layout?
In Arden, the natural-gas mains that feed Skyland and Royal Pines let you put the outdoor fireplace wherever it works best as a focal wall — usually the far end of the patio, facing the seating — without a propane tank in the picture. Keep the buried run reasonable from the meter, and check setbacks on these established 1980s-90s lots with Buncombe County.
Place it for effect, not for fuel
Arden's established neighborhoods — Skyland, Royal Pines, Glenn Bridge — sit on the natural-gas mains, so unlike propane country you're not siting the fireplace around a tank. That means you can put it wherever it does the most design work: the far end of the patio as a focal wall that faces the seating, off the back of the house, or positioned to screen a neighbor's view on these closer suburban lots. The buried gas line just needs a reasonable run from the meter, so keep the fireplace within sensible reach and the fuel side stays straightforward and affordable.
Older lots, clean layout
These are 1980s-90s properties with mature landscaping, so before we build we check setbacks from the house, eaves, fences, and property lines with Buncombe County, pull the permit, and meet the inspector. On a tighter lot, we're careful to hold required clearances from anything combustible — fences and overhanging limbs especially. Running and connecting the gas line is licensed work; a mason can lay the stone but can't legally make it burn in North Carolina, and we pressure-test every line we run. Match the fireplace's finish to your home so it reads as original. We're 15 minutes south of the showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home design consultation.
