Which fireplace brands offer WiFi or smartphone app control?
Yes — several brands we carry offer app or WiFi control. Majestic runs IntelliFire Touch, which pairs with a phone app, and Heat & Glo and Heatilator use the same IntelliFire ignition family with app-capable versions. You can adjust flame height, set a thermostat, and light it from the couch — but read the outage caveat below before making that the deciding feature.
What app control actually does
On an IntelliFire Touch unit like the Majestic Meridian 42, the app lets you light the fire, dial flame height up or down, run it on a room thermostat, and set a timer — all from your phone. It's genuinely useful for a fireplace across a big room, or one you want warming the house before you get home. Heat & Glo's IntelliFire Plus and Heatilator's IntelliFire offer versions of the same.
The Helene-shaped catch
An app-controlled fireplace leans on electronics, WiFi, and usually your home's power. When the grid goes down — and in these mountains it does, for days after a storm — a fireplace you can only start from an app can leave you cold. That's why we ask what the fireplace is for. If it's ambiance and convenience, app control is great. If it's backup heat, you want a millivolt unit like a Valor that runs with zero electricity, or a battery-backup ignition that lights without house power. Some units give you both worlds; we'll point you to them.
Matching the feature to your home
The smart move is to decide what the fireplace has to do on its worst day, then pick the ignition to match. We carry app-controlled units and grid-independent ones, and we'll walk you through the tradeoff with no pressure.
