Why don't the ember-bed or accent lights in my linear gas fireplace work anymore?
Usually a burned-out LED strip, a loose or unplugged light harness, a failed accent-light transformer, or a tripped GFCI outlet feeding the fireplace. On many linear units the ember-bed and downlights run on their own low-voltage circuit, separate from the burner — so the fire works fine while the lights stay dark. It's a common, fixable electrical issue.
The lights are a separate system
On modern linear fireplaces — the Napoleon Vector, Heat & Glo Cosmo, Majestic Meridian, and similar units — the glowing ember bed, under-log lighting, and topside accent LEDs run off a low-voltage transformer and controller that's independent of the gas burner.
That's by design: it lets you run flame-only ambiance or set a mood without heat. The downside is that when the light circuit fails, the fire still lights normally, which makes people think the fireplace is fine and the LEDs just died. They didn't — the circuit did.
What we check
First stop is power. Many of these units plug into a standard outlet, so a tripped GFCI or a nuisance breaker on that circuit is a five-minute find. Then we check the transformer, the light controller, and the plug connections behind the unit — vibration and heat cycling loosen harness plugs over the years.
Finally, the LED strips themselves. Individual LEDs or a whole strip can burn out, especially on units a decade or more in. Most of these parts are inexpensive, and the labor is quick once we know which link in the chain failed.
Getting the right replacement
The catch with LED and accent parts is that they're model-specific — the strip, transformer, and controller have to match your exact unit, and older discontinued fireplaces sometimes need an equivalent sourced from the manufacturer.
