A sealed propane or gas conversion ends the wood smoke and the creosote the damp keeps reactivating.
Propane, and why it changes the plan
Downtown Brevard has some natural gas, but out toward Connestee Falls, Sherwood Forest, and the cabins you're almost always on propane. That's fine for a conversion — propane burns hotter per unit and needs its own orifices and pressures, which is exactly the setup work we handle. The point for your air is the same either way: a gas flame produces no wood smoke, no ash, and no creosote, so the fuel switch itself is the clean-air win.
Damp chimneys and the smell you can't scrub out
Transylvania's rainfall — heaviest March through June — keeps creosote and soot in an open flue damp and odorous, and downdrafts push that smell and its particulate back into the room. Sealing the firebox with an insert cuts the wood fire and the moisture-fed odor at once. A vented gas log set is the lower-cost, ambiance-first option, but for indoor air the sealed insert is what we recommend in this climate.
