Will my fireplace put out less heat on propane than on natural gas?

No — a Fletcher fireplace delivers the same rated heat on propane as on natural gas, though most of Fletcher sits on the gas main, so natural gas is almost certainly your fuel. The BTU output is set inside the appliance. If you own a rural property out toward Cane Creek on a propane tank, it heats exactly as well.

A gas-main town — but the question still matters

Fletcher runs along the I-26 corridor with 1990s subdivisions, steady new construction, and a lot of commercial space near the airport — and most of it ties into the natural-gas main. Plenty of those subdivision homes have builder-grade fireplaces that are more decoration than heater, and when we upgrade one to a real sealed unit it stays on natural gas. The propane-versus-natural-gas question comes up for the rural edges toward Cane Creek and Fanning Bridge, where a home may be past the main and on a tank. Same appliance, same heat — the fuel doesn't change the rating.

Why the two fuels tie

Every gas fireplace carries a BTU rating the burner produces on either fuel, provided the metering matches. Propane is denser and more energetic per cubic foot, so it needs smaller injectors and higher manifold pressure than natural gas. For commercial jobs and outdoor features around the airport, where output has to be predictable, we verify that pressure with a gauge and account for elevation. A wrong conversion — not the propane — is what causes soot and a weak flame.

Permitted with Henderson County

Whether it's a home upgrade or a commercial install, gas piping is licensed work in North Carolina — a showroom or electrician legally can't connect the fuel. We pull the Henderson County permit, meet the inspector, and pressure-test the line. Fletcher is about 20 minutes south of our Asheville showroom.
