In Sylva you're in Jackson County and the Town of Sylva, a different jurisdiction entirely from Asheville, so its city rule doesn't reach you. A contained recreational fire and a gas fire pit are generally allowed with an approved pit, clearance, an adult attending, and a way to douse fast.
