Are there rebates or change-out programs for replacing an old wood stove?
Not through any standing program in Transylvania County right now. Wood-stove change-out incentives are temporary, air-quality-driven efforts that come and go, and Brevard isn't inside one today. Around here the bigger driver for replacing an old stove usually isn't a rebate at all, it's moisture, because 80-plus inches of annual rain quietly wrecks stoves, dampers, and chimney chases.
The wet-climate factor
Brevard's rainfall is relentless from March into June, and it takes a toll that most catalogs never mention. Crawl spaces and chimney chases stay damp, crowns crack, brick spalls, and dampers rust, so plenty of the old stoves we replace here aren't retired for efficiency, they're retired because water got into the system and the flue is no longer sound.
When we swap a stove in a downtown home or a cabin out toward Connestee Falls or Pisgah Forest, we look hard at the liner and cap, because a new EPA stove is only as good as the weatherproofed chimney it vents through.

NC DEQ's Division of Air Quality and Transylvania County are where a legitimate change-out program would appear, with HPBA campaigns turning up now and then. We don't administer a rebate and won't invent one. If a real one lands while you're deciding, we'll point you to it.
