Are there rebates or change-out programs for replacing an old wood stove?
Not right now, though Candler sits in exactly the setting these programs are meant for. Hominy Valley is a natural bowl, and clean-burn change-out incentives target valleys where winter woodsmoke settles and lingers. No standing program is funded in Buncombe County today, so while the air-quality case here is strong, treat any rebate as a maybe rather than a plan.

Candler's geography is the whole point of these programs. A valley bowl traps cold air and the fine particles from older uncertified stoves, so clean-burning sealed appliances are genuinely more attractive here for air quality, not just efficiency. That's the case a change-out incentive would be built to make, which is why it's a shame none is active at the moment.
A modern EPA stove or sealed insert makes that improvement on its own, and in Candler's fast-growing subdivisions, many homes have only a basic decorative builder-grade firebox that owners already want to upgrade into something that truly heats.
Where a real program would show
Check NC DEQ's Division of Air Quality and Buncombe County, plus the occasional HPBA dealer changeout. We don't run a rebate and won't wave a maybe in front of you. If a legitimate round opens while you're deciding, we'll tell you where to look.
