Are there rules for where the propane tank can be placed when adding a propane fireplace?

In Arden, most Royal Pines and Skyland homes are on the natural-gas main, so a tank often isn't needed. Where propane comes in — an outlying Avery Creek lot — the setback that usually bites on an established subdivision lot is the distance to the property line. NFPA 58 governs all of it, and a bigger tank needs more room. Your supplier sites it.

The property line is the tight one

Arden's 1980s-90s subdivisions have comfortable but not enormous yards, and on those lots the binding constraint is usually the setback from the property line, not from the house. A 500-gallon tank needs a real buffer on all sides; a smaller tank fits where a big one won't. On a corner lot the geometry gets even tighter, so plan it early. In town, though, the gas main means many homes skip the tank entirely — it's the outlying lots past Avery Creek where propane, and this puzzle, come up. Your propane company will find a compliant spot or size the tank to fit it.

Waking up a drafty fireplace

A lot of these homes have tired open masonry fireplaces that pull heat out of the room. A sealed gas insert — on the main or on propane — turns that hole in the wall into a real heater; inserts commonly run 70% efficient or better, versus an open masonry box that can lose net heat. Steady Flame runs the licensed gas line, sets the regulator, and connects the appliance; a mason legally can't fuel it in North Carolina. Your supplier owns any tank. We pull the Buncombe County permit and pressure-test the line.

Fifteen minutes south

Between Skyland's neighborhoods and the Biltmore Park commercial spaces, we work Arden constantly — just fifteen minutes from our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 770-8079 for a free in-home assessment and we'll confirm whether it's a line or a tank. If it's a tank, we'll site it with your propane company to clear that property line.
