Are there rules for where the propane tank can be placed when adding a propane fireplace?
Brevard is propane country — no natural-gas main runs to most of it — so a tank is usually part of adding a gas fireplace. Placement follows NFPA 58 setbacks from the house, windows, doors, ignition sources, and the property line, and the distance scales with tank size. Your supplier sites it; we connect the licensed gas piping.
Rain is the local wildcard
Transylvania County catches 80-plus inches of rain a year, and saturated ground changes how a buried tank goes in. An underground tank set in wet, heavy soil has to be properly anchored and backfilled so it stays put, and it still has to meet the same clearances from the building and property line as an above-ground tank. Above-ground is simpler here and dries faster; buried keeps a clean look on a wooded lot. Brevard's chimney chases and crawl spaces already fight moisture, so we keep the whole gas path — tank to appliance — set for the wet. Your propane company will weigh both options against your setback distances.
Where the trades divide
The tank — size, placement, lease or purchase, and filling — belongs to your propane supplier, who holds it to code. Steady Flame handles the regulator, the gas line from the tank to the firebox, and the appliance hookup. That fuel work is licensed in North Carolina; a furniture showroom or a mason can sell you a beautiful box but legally can't run the gas. We permit the piping with Transylvania County and pressure-test every joint.
Cabins and downtown alike
From the Connestee Falls and Sherwood Forest cabins to downtown Brevard, we do propane fireplaces constantly, forty minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom. Mendota and Kozy Heat are strong picks for propane-country homes. We'll coordinate the tank location with your supplier and route the line to keep it out of view.
