Can I control my gas fireplace from my phone or with Alexa or Google Home?

Sometimes yes — several models we carry offer app control over WiFi, like the Majestic and Heat & Glo units with IntelliFire, so your phone becomes the remote. Voice control through Alexa or Google Home is more limited and depends on the specific module and manufacturer. Older or basic fireplaces need a smart module added, if one's even available for them.

App control is real on the right units

The newer end of what we sell can absolutely be run from your phone. Majestic's IntelliFire Touch and Heat & Glo's IntelliFire app let you connect the fireplace to your home WiFi and turn it on and off, set flame height, run the fan, and use thermostat and timer functions from the couch or across the house. It's a genuinely nice feature on a great-room anchor. The key is that the capability has to be built into the fireplace's control system — it's not something you bolt onto just any unit.

Voice assistants: expect less, verify more

Alexa and Google Home integration is where honesty matters. Some manufacturers offer it, some don't, and where it exists it's often narrower than people hope — and there are good safety reasons voice control of a live gas flame is handled cautiously. Treat a broad "Hey Google, light the fireplace" as a maybe that depends entirely on your specific model and its app, not a given. If voice control is a must-have for you, tell us before you choose a unit and we'll steer you to one whose ecosystem actually supports it.

Adding smarts to an existing fireplace

Got an older gas fireplace and want phone control? Depending on the ignition system, a compatible smart or WiFi module can sometimes be added — but not universally, and it has to match your valve and receiver. This isn't a generic gadget; the wrong module won't work and shouldn't be forced onto a gas control. Bring us your model and we'll tell you honestly whether smart control is possible for it or whether it'd mean a new appliance. Call (828) 545-0525.
