Can I heat my home with my wood stove or wood insert when the power is out?
Yes — a Weaverville wood stove or wood insert heats your home through a power outage on firewood alone, no electricity required. What kind you want depends on your house: the new builds out in Reems Creek and the older downtown homes call for two very different wood setups, and we fit the appliance to the home.
New Reems Creek, Old Downtown
Weaverville has been going up fast, and much of the new Reems Creek construction has a clean factory-built firebox that pairs naturally with a freestanding wood stove rated for real output. Downtown, the older homes tend to have original masonry fireboxes that are inefficient by today's standards — an open fire that loses more heat up the flue than it delivers.
For those, a sealed wood insert with a correctly sized liner is the fix. It drops into the existing opening, runs 70 percent efficient or better, and — the part that matters in an outage — keeps radiating heat with the grid completely down.
A Valley That Warms Up Slowly
Weaverville's north-facing position means spring arrives later than it does in Asheville, so the heating season here runs a bit long. That's more nights depending on a hearth, and more reason the appliance should be sized to carry the room on the coldest evening rather than the average one.
Bigger isn't better, though — an oversized stove throttled down to cope smolders and glazes the flue with creosote. Matching output to the space is the whole craft, and we'd rather get it right than sell you more stove than you need.
Fifteen Minutes Up the Road
We're just north of the Asheville showroom, so a pre-season inspection or a fresh install fits easily into one trip. Wood work is permitted in Buncombe County: we pull the permit, set the Class A chimney or liner to clearance, and meet the inspector.
We install and service Regency, Lopi, Jotul, and HearthStone. If your stove sat unused last winter, have it swept and checked before you lean on it. Call (828) 545-0525.
Fireplace help in Weaverville
We install and service fireplaces throughout Weaverville and the rest of Buncombe County — just 15 minutes north from our Asheville-area showroom.
