Can I replace just the log set in my gas fireplace instead of the whole unit?

Sometimes — if you have a gas log set sitting in an open masonry fireplace, yes, we can swap just the logs for a fresh Real Fyre or matched set. But if your logs live inside a sealed direct-vent unit, they're engineered to that specific firebox and burner, so it's not a mix-and-match swap. It depends on which type you have.

Two very different setups

The answer hinges entirely on what you own. An open masonry fireplace with a drop-in gas log set — vented logs on a burner pan behind a decorative screen — is the easy case: those sets are somewhat modular, and we can replace a cracked or crumbling set with a comparable one, often a hand-painted Real Fyre Charred American Oak that looks far more convincing than a builder set. A sealed factory-built gas fireplace is the other case: the logs, burner, and firebox are a matched, safety-certified system.

Why you can't freelance a sealed unit

On a direct-vent or ventless factory unit, the log placement is certified with that exact burner for clean, safe combustion. Swapping in random logs — or nudging embers and logs off their marked positions — is the classic cause of sooting, a yellow lazy flame, and, on ventless units, a tripped oxygen sensor. Manufacturers require their own replacement log set for a reason, and we install the matched set for your specific model. Never eyeball it.

What we'd actually recommend

If your logs are just tired and the unit is sound, refreshing the set — or the ember media — is cheap and transformative; new logs make an old fireplace look new again. If the logs are damaged because the unit runs hot or dirty, we diagnose why first, so you're not putting nice logs on a real problem.
