Can I run the flame effect on my electric fireplace without the heat?

Yes — on virtually every electric fireplace, including the Dimplex IgniteXL Bold we carry, the flame and the heater are fully separate. Turn the heat off and leave the flame running for ambiance with no added warmth. Dimplex calls it flame-only, or summer mode, and it lets you enjoy the fire year-round, even in July.

Two independent systems in one box

An electric fireplace has two things going on: an LED flame effect that just makes light, and a fan-forced heating element that makes warmth. They're wired to run on their own, so flame-only is standard, not a special trick. Hit the flame button without switching on the heat and you've got the glow with zero temperature change — ideal for a mild WNC evening when the room's already comfortable but you still want the fire. On a Dimplex you can also adjust the flame's color and brightness in this mode, so the look never depends on the heater running.

Why flame-only makes electric worth it

This is genuinely the electric fireplace's best card. A gas or wood fire is all-or-nothing — flame means heat — but electric gives you the fire's mood in summer, in a bedroom you don't want to overheat, or in a tight space where any extra warmth would be too much. It's also cheap to run this way: the LEDs sip electricity, while the heating element is the part that pulls real wattage. Leave the flame glowing across the room all evening and it costs next to nothing.

The one honest limitation

The trade-off is the same one that applies to every electric unit: it needs the wall outlet to do anything, flame included. When the power goes out, the flame goes dark right along with the heat — no battery backup, no grid-down glow. Folks around here remember how long the lights were off after Helene, and that's why we're straight about electric being an ambiance-and-supplement product, not backup heat. For a room that already has central heat and just wants year-round atmosphere, it's a great fit. Call (828) 545-0525 or visit the showroom to see the flame in person.
