Do I need to tell my propane company before adding a gas fireplace?
In Fletcher, most homes are on the natural-gas main, so this often doesn't apply at all — you'll deal with the gas utility, not a propane company. But out toward Cane Creek and the rural edges, some homes run on propane. If yours does, yes: tell your supplier before adding a fireplace and its load.
A gas-main town, mostly
Fletcher sits right on the natural-gas mains that run the Asheville-to-Hendersonville corridor — the 1990s subdivisions, the steady I-26 development, much of the commercial property along the airport. For those homes and businesses, adding a fireplace never involves a propane supplier; it's a permit-and-utility matter. The exception is the more rural pockets, out toward Cane Creek and the fringes, where a leased propane tank still does the job. That's the only Fletcher case where this question is live.
If you are on propane
Where there's a tank in the yard, the supplier owns it and the fuel in it, and they set the rules on what connects. Adding a fireplace raises your peak demand, so they'll confirm the tank and regulator can carry it and adjust deliveries. Fletcher also sees a lot of commercial interest in gas fireplaces and outdoor features, and a business stacking several appliances on one propane system has all the more reason to size the tank up front with the supplier.
Our part, close by
Steady Flame handles the appliance, the licensed gas line, the Henderson County permit, and the pressure test; on a propane home, your supplier handles the tank. We're 20 minutes south of the Asheville showroom. Whether you're on the main or on a tank, connecting the fuel is licensed work — a showroom can't, we can. Call (828) 545-0525.
