Many Backgrounds. One Standard.
Brevard, North Carolina

How do I find out if natural gas is available on my street?

In Brevard, plan on propane. Natural-gas mains are scarce once you leave the immediate downtown, and out toward Connestee Falls, Sherwood Forest, and the cabins there's simply no line to tap — propane is the standard here, and it heats every bit as well. If you want certainty for your street, the gas utility will check coverage against your address.

Propane is the norm, not a compromise

Most of Transylvania County runs on propane, and Brevard is no exception outside the town center. That's not a downgrade — a propane fireplace is every bit the heater a natural-gas one is; it just burns at a different pressure through different orifices, which is exactly why the setup has to be done by someone who works with both. Out at Connestee Falls, Sherwood Forest, and the cabins tucked up the mountain roads, an LP tank is simply part of the property.

Making sure before you plan

If you're curious whether your particular street is one of the rare ones with a natural-gas main, the tells are the same everywhere in WNC: a neighbor's wall meter versus a yard tank, and yellow utility paint left after an 811 locate. The natural-gas utility will confirm coverage by address in a quick call. We're about 40 minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom, an easy trip for a free in-home look at either fuel.

Brevard's wet climate and the Transylvania permit

Brevard catches 80-plus inches of rain a year, and that water cracks crowns, spalls brick, and rusts dampers — so venting and waterproofing get real attention on installs here, especially in the moisture-prone crawl spaces and chimney chases so common in town. Whatever the fuel, we pull the Transylvania County permit and pressure-test the line so it holds. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
