How do I find out if natural gas is available on my street?
Candler is a fuel patchwork. Out in Hominy Valley and the rural Sand Hill and Pisgah Highway stretches, propane is the norm — there's no main up those roads. But the fast-growing new subdivisions nearer the Enka corridor sometimes reach natural gas, so it varies by development. Ask the gas utility with your exact address before assuming either way.
Rural propane, corridor gas
Candler is one of Asheville's fastest-growing suburban edges, and its fuel map reflects that. The rural roads through Hominy Valley, Sand Hill, and out the Pisgah Highway run on propane — the mains don't reach up there, and LP is simply how these homes heat. Closer to the Enka corridor, some of the newer subdivisions have been built where natural gas is available. That's why two Candler addresses a few miles apart can have completely different answers.
Clean-burning matters in the bowl
Hominy Valley sits in a natural bowl, and on still winter days that geography can trap woodsmoke and hold it low — which is part of why a clean-burning sealed gas or a modern EPA-certified appliance is attractive here. Many of Candler's new subdivision homes came with basic decorative builder-grade fireboxes, and owners often want a real heat-producing upgrade within a few years. Read the neighbors for meters versus tanks and call the utility to confirm your street.
Buncombe County permit
Propane or natural gas, the connection is licensed work — the regulator, piping, and appliance setup are all permitted and pressure-tested, with any propane tank coordinated through your supplier. We pull the Buncombe County permit and meet the inspector. Candler is about 15 minutes west of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
