How long do gas logs last before they need replacing?

After the water, inspect below the logs

Then the logs themselves
Once the gas side checks out, the logs follow the same rules as anywhere: replace them when they crack into pieces, crumble onto the burner, or foul the flame with soot that won't clean up.
