How much does a chimney cap cost installed?
A chimney cap is among the cheapest things you'll ever bolt to your house — a standard stainless single-flue cap installed is small-service-visit money, not a project. The price climbs with coverage and material: multi-flue and full-coverage caps cost more, custom and copper work more still, and replacing a rusted chase cover on a prefab chimney is its own larger job.
Cheap part, expensive absence
We find missing or mangled caps on inspections every week, usually with the damage bill already running: rainwater rusting the damper shut, soaked masonry spalling through freeze-thaw, a squirrel nest packed into the flue. Mountain weather is hard on chimneys — storms rake across these ridges — and an open flue takes all of it straight down the throat. The price ladder
A standard stainless single-flue cap is the baseline — inexpensive part, quick labor. From there it steps up: multi-flue caps spanning two flues, full-coverage caps that shelter the whole crown, spark-arrestor and animal-screen options, and custom-fabricated or copper caps for homes where looks matter. Prefab (factory-built) chimneys are a different animal: they use a chase cover, the metal pan on top of the chase, and when that rusts through, replacement is a bigger, measured-to-fit job than a masonry cap swap.
