How much does it cost to install a built-in electric fireplace, including the wiring?

In Asheville, a built-in electric fireplace is the least-expensive hearth project we do — the Dimplex unit runs a few hundred dollars, and the real cost is the carpentry: framing a recess and finishing the wall. Running a dedicated circuit is the swing factor, easier in a South Asheville build than a plaster-walled Montford home. Free quote at (828) 545-0525.

Old plaster or new drywall — that's your cost

The fireplace is the small line item. A recessed electric like the Dimplex IgniteXL Bold 50 — the most convincing electric flame we sell — starts well under any gas project. What moves the price is the wall it goes into. In North Asheville and Montford, we're cutting into 1920s plaster and lath, which means more careful demolition and patch-back than a clean-face recess in a newer South Asheville great room where the framing is already open and forgiving.

Our showroom is right here on Emma Rd, so you can watch the IgniteXL run before you commit — no guessing off a screen.

Getting power to it

An electric built-in draws about 1,500 watts — a space heater on high. A plug-in wall-mount can borrow an existing outlet, but a recessed unit wants its own dedicated circuit with the receptacle hidden in the cavity, or it trips the first cold night you run it alongside the TV and the lamps. Electrical isn't our trade — we build what makes fire and heat — so we bring in a licensed electrician for the circuit and handle the recess, the unit, and the finish ourselves, on one schedule.

The honest limit

Be clear on what you're buying: roughly 5,000 BTU of supplemental warmth for a space up to about 400 square feet, and nothing at all when the power's out. Asheville's elevation keeps spring nights in the 20s, so if you want heat you can lean on through an outage, put the budget toward gas or wood instead. For a finished feature wall with flame, electric wins on price by a wide margin. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free quote on the whole build-out.
