How much does it cost to replace a rusted chimney chase cover?

In Asheville the honest answer depends on which side of town your chimney is on — a chase cover only exists on a framed prefab chase, so it's the newer South Asheville builds that need one, not the original masonry stacks in Montford or North Asheville. The pan is custom sheet metal; footprint, flue openings, and roof pitch set the price, and we're right up Emma Road to measure it.

Two chimney worlds in one city

A chase cover caps the framed, sided chase around a factory-built firebox — the clean-face gas and prefab boxes that went into South Asheville and Biltmore Village construction over the last few decades. Montford and North Asheville run on original masonry stacks instead, where the parts that fail are the crown and the clay flue liner, not a sheet-metal pan. So this is really a question for the newer half of town, and the rusted galvanized cover streaking down your siding is the builder-grade original giving up.

What sets your number

Every pan is cut to your chase, so the footprint, the apron depth down the sides, the number of flue collars we seal, and a cross-break — the shallow ridge bent in so rain runs off instead of pooling — all move the price, along with how steep the roof is to work on. Material is the real fork: galvanized is cheap and rusts again, stainless costs more once and ends the problem. At 2,134 feet our nights sit in the 20s into spring, and that freeze-thaw is what eats thin galvanized.

Right up Emma Road

We're headquartered at 629 Emma Road, so getting a technician out to measure your chase is quick. If water has already worked into the firebox or vent below, we'll tell you straight whether the unit is worth saving — no nickel-and-diming a lost cause. Should the fireplace itself need replacing, that's licensed gas work we permit with Buncombe County. Call (828) 545-0525 and we'll take a look.
