Is Dimplex a good electric fireplace brand?
Yes. Dimplex is the electric line we point people to and the one we display in our Asheville showroom. It builds what's widely considered the most convincing electric flame on the market, backs it with a real warranty, and sells through dealers rather than shelves — so you get honest sizing and support instead of a mystery box.
Why it's the electric line we carry
Electric fireplaces are everywhere now, and most of the cheap ones look like a flat, printed flicker behind glass. Dimplex is the exception — decades of electric-heating engineering behind it, and flame technologies (Opti-myst water vapor, Revillusion, Multi-Fire LED) that genuinely fool people standing in front of them. That's why it's the one electric brand we chose to stock.
On our floor you'll find the Dimplex IgniteXL Bold 50 (XLF5017-XD) — a 50-inch linear unit that draws about 1,500 watts, puts out roughly 5,000 BTU of supplemental heat, warms up to around 400 square feet, and has a flame-only summer mode so you can run the look without the heat in July.
What electric does well — and where it stops
Electric's whole appeal is freedom: flame at the flip of a switch, no venting, no gas line, no chimney, no clearances to a flue. It drops into a condo, a bonus room, a bedroom, or a rental where you legally can't touch the gas. Nothing to burn, nothing to soot.
But we'll be straight with you. Electric is supplemental heat — around 5,000 BTU, roughly 400 square feet, and WNC winters push that number down. And it's dead the second the power goes out. After Helene, the homes that stayed warm ran gas or wood, not electric. If backup heat is the goal, direct-vent gas or a wood stove is the play; if ambiance and easy placement are the goal, Dimplex is excellent.
Best judged burning
Electric flame quality varies wildly brand to brand, so the honest move is to see it lit. Visit our Asheville showroom, watch the Dimplex effects run, and decide with your own eyes. We're showroom and professional install only — call (828) 545-0525 or come by 629 Emma Rd.
