What is the difference between Dimplex flame technologies like Optiflame, Multi-Fire, and Opti-myst?
They're different generations of Dimplex flame effect, least to most realistic. Optiflame is the classic motor-and-light rotating-rod flame — simple and a bit stylized. Multi-Fire is the LED digital system with adjustable color, speed, brightness, and swappable ember beds. Opti-myst is water vapor that produces true three-dimensional flame and rising smoke. Revillusion sits at the premium top.
Optiflame — the original
Optiflame is the effect Dimplex built its name on: a light shines onto a slowly rotating reflector rod, throwing a flickering flame pattern up behind the logs. It's reliable, inexpensive, and perfectly pleasant across a room — a little repetitive if you study it up close. You'll find it on many traditional-style mantel and freestanding units.
Multi-Fire — the customizable one
Multi-Fire is all-LED with no moving flame parts. You adjust flame color (orange, blue, or blended), speed, and brightness, and you can swap the ember bed between acrylic ice, driftwood, or logs to change the whole vibe. The Multi-Fire XD and XHD versions sharpen and project the flame further. It's the pick for modern linear looks and for people who like to tune the mood by season or room.
Opti-myst and Revillusion — the realism kings
Opti-myst is the standout: an ultrasonic disc turns water into cool mist that lifts and curls like genuine flame and smoke, the most convincing electric fire from across a room. The catch is a water reservoir you refill. Revillusion is the premium LED alternative — no mirrored back and a randomized, non-repeating flame — that skips the water upkeep.
Which one is right comes down to look versus simplicity versus budget, and honestly the only way to choose is to watch them side by side. We run these effects at our Asheville showroom — call (828) 545-0525 or visit 629 Emma Rd and compare them lit.
