What is the Dimplex IgniteXL linear electric fireplace?
The Dimplex IgniteXL is a built-in linear electric fireplace — a wide, frameless flame that recesses into the wall with no gas line, no venting, and no chimney. The IgniteXL Bold 50 we display is 50 inches, puts out about 5,000 BTU (~1,500W) of supplemental heat for up to 400 square feet, and has a flame-only mode so you can run the look in summer without heat.
The most convincing electric flame we sell
Dimplex is our electric option, and it's there because it makes the most convincing electric flame on the market — a layered flame effect that reads as real from across the room, behind frameless glass with your choice of media bed.
Because there's no combustion, there's no venting, no chimney, and none of the clearances a gas unit demands. It plugs in or hardwires, and it lives happily against drywall with a mantel above — which is why it works on a TV wall where gas would be a project.
Where electric makes sense — and where it doesn't
An IgniteXL shines in condos, bonus rooms, offices, bedrooms, finished basements, and any room with no gas access. It's flame at the flip of a switch, zero fuss.
The honest limits: it's a supplemental heater — about 5,000 BTU for roughly 400 square feet — not a whole-home solution. And the WNC reality you have to hear: electric is dead in a power outage. If backup heat after a Helene-style multi-day blackout is your real goal, that's a [gas or wood conversation](/guides/backup-heat-power-outage-wnc), not an electric one. We'll tell you that straight rather than sell you the wrong thing.
Install and warranty
We install the IgniteXL recessed as a built-in or surface-mounted, handling the framing and finish coordination; on a hardwired unit that needs a dedicated circuit, we bring in our licensed electrician partners for the wiring and set and finish the fireplace ourselves.
Dimplex backs it with a 1-year full warranty and a 5-year limited warranty on the flame. Come see one lit in our Asheville showroom, or call (828) 545-0525.
