Propane vs natural gas fire pit — which should I get?

So a gas fire pit here runs on propane, plumbed from your existing tank or a new one we coordinate with your supplier. Wood heat is popular in these parts, and there's a place for it, but for a patio fire that lights instantly and cleans up after itself, propane is the easier companion to a wood-heavy property. On lots this size, a fire pit isn't crammed against the house — it can anchor a real outdoor room.
The burner is built for LP
Propane isn't just natural gas from a tank — it burns hotter and runs at a different pressure, so the burner needs jets sized for LP or the flame burns dirty and soots everything above it. Because propane is heavier than air, an outdoor LP fire feature also gets careful attention to the burner pan's drainage and ventilation. None of that is anything you'll manage day to day; it's simply what a licensed gas crew handles at install. The Napoleon Uptown pit we carry is a 60,000-BTU LP unit built for exactly this.
Licensed line, Buncombe permit
Connecting propane to a fire feature is licensed gas work in North Carolina — a hardscaper can lay the stone, but the fuel side is ours.
