Brevard is propane country, so on a new Transylvania County build the rough-in starts with the tank: set one sized for the house plus a future outdoor fire feature, placed for easy delivery access, then run a buried, outdoor-rated gas line to the patio and cap it. Doing it before the hardscape and heavy Brevard rains is far cleaner than trenching later.
The propane tank is a design decision, not an afterthought
Because you're on LP, tank capacity is the number that quietly limits everything downstream. Add the BTU load of the house appliances to a future fire pit, grill, and patio heater, and set a tank that covers the whole picture — upsizing later means another truck, another pad, another permit.
Place the tank where the delivery truck can reach it year-round and where the buried line can run cleanly to the patio zone. Sleeve the line anywhere it crosses under a slab or drive, and size it generously so you're never capped out.
Brevard's rain is hard on everything outdoors
Transylvania County gets 80-plus inches of rain a year, and it wears on outdoor work — crowns crack, dampers rust, brick spalls. Use outdoor-rated buried pipe and plan the fire feature's drainage and materials with that in mind; a sealed gas unit shrugs off weather a masonry outdoor fireplace has to be detailed against.
Running and connecting propane is licensed work in North Carolina — a mason or landscaper legally can't tie your fire feature to fuel. We do the propane connection, regulator, and piping, pull the Transylvania County permit, and pressure-test the line, coordinating the tank with your supplier.
