What annual maintenance does a wood-burning insert need?
In Maggie Valley, a wood-burning insert's yearly service is a pre-season must — most fireplaces here sit idle in vacation rentals and cabins for weeks, then have to light instantly for guests. At 3,000-plus feet, one of the coldest spots we serve, we sweep the liner and check the whole unit before the rental season depends on it.
Idle for weeks, then flawless on demand
Maggie Valley runs on cabins and vacation rentals, and their fireplaces live a strange life — dark and unused for stretches, then expected to perform the moment a guest arrives on a cold night. Sitting idle isn't harmless: gaskets stiffen, moisture works into a shaded flue, and debris settles in the liner. At better than 3,000 feet this is one of the coldest communities we serve, so when the insert is called on, it's called on hard. A thorough annual service before the peak rental months is how you avoid a cold cabin, an unhappy guest, and a service call at the worst possible time.
Everything we go through
We sweep and inspect the full stainless liner, check the firebox and firebrick, test the door and glass gaskets, look over the cap and top-plate, vacuum cold ash, clean the glass, and service the blower. On many inserts we ease the unit partway out of the opening to reach the entire liner — a real visit, done to CSIA and NFPA standards.
Out here on propane, a wood insert is also dependable off-grid heat when mountain storms drop the power. Book in late summer, ahead of the season. We pull the Haywood County permit when a job requires it and service every major wood brand. Call (828) 545-0525.
