What are my options for a gas fireplace if my neighborhood doesn't have natural gas?
Fletcher sits squarely on natural-gas mains along the I-26 corridor, but head out toward Cane Creek and the rural edges and the pipe runs out — those homes use propane. It's the identical fireplace either way, set for LP and fed from a tank, whether it's warming a Cane Creek house or a commercial space near the airport.
A gas-main town with rural edges
Fletcher is one of the natural-gas towns — the mains follow the I-26 corridor and feed most of the airport-area development and the 1990s subdivisions. But the town has rural edges, and out toward Cane Creek and Fanning Bridge the pipe thins out; those homes run on propane. The good news is it changes nothing about the fireplace you can have. Every major brand we carry offers an LP build or ships convertible, so a Napoleon or Heat & Glo unit on propane looks and heats identically to the same model on the main.
Commercial demand and builder-grade upgrades
Fletcher's demand tilts commercial in a way its neighbors' don't — the airport-area businesses want gas fireplaces and outdoor gas features, and where a site is off the main we run those on propane just as readily as on natural gas, including buried outdoor-rated lines to a patio fire feature. On the residential side, a lot of the 1990s subdivisions came with builder-grade fireboxes that owners have since outgrown; a sealed gas insert upgrades the heat and the look. Either way, we pull the Henderson County permit, pressure-test the line, and meet the inspector — connecting fuel is licensed gas work no showroom can legally do.
Outage-ready, wherever the tank sits
Propane's outage advantage applies here just as it does off in the coves: a fireplace with millivolt or battery-backup ignition keeps heat on when the grid drops and the tank's already full — a lesson the whole area took from Helene.
