What if the propane truck can't get up my mountain driveway in winter — how do I avoid running out?

The highest, coldest tank we fill

At better than 3,000 feet, Maggie Valley runs colder and holds winter longer than almost anywhere in our service area, and the driveways up Soco Road and Jonathan Creek climb hard. A loaded propane truck simply won't take an iced grade to a cabin tucked up the mountain, and up here that's most of the season, not a rare cold snap.

Because it's propane-only, there's no gas-main fallback. The tank is the whole supply, so sizing it generously and keeping it topped high is the difference between a warm rental and a cold one.

Absentee owners have a special risk

The rental and second-home pattern is the real hazard: a fireplace sits idle for weeks, no one clocks the gauge, and then it has to fire on demand for arriving guests. A remote tank monitor lets your supplier — and you, from anywhere — watch the level, and automatic delivery keeps it from ever bottoming out between bookings.

We also recommend a pre-season inspection before the peak rental months; a cabin's pilot assembly clogs with spiders and dust over an idle summer, and you don't want to discover that on a guest's first night.
