What size propane tank do I need to run a gas fireplace or log set at home?
Fletcher sits squarely on the natural-gas main along the I-26 corridor, so for most homes and businesses here the answer is that you likely don't need a propane tank at all — the fireplace ties straight to the meter. On the rare address the main skips, a single fireplace runs on a 120- or 250-gallon tank.
On the corridor, gas-on-the-main is the default
The Airport Road area, the I-26 corridor, and Fletcher's 1990s subdivisions are natural-gas territory. When your line taps the main, propane never enters the conversation — we run and permit gas piping off the meter, and there's no tank to place, own, or fill.
It's only past the main's edge that a tank matters, and a lone direct-vent fireplace or log set there sizes to a 120-gallon (about 420-lb) or 250-gallon tank, once or twice a season on refills.
Commercial demand is a bigger load
Fletcher's airport-area commercial and office spaces ask more of gas than a typical home — multiple appliances, larger fireplaces, outdoor features. On the uncommon commercial site that's on propane rather than the main, that combined load can justify a 500-gallon tank so nothing loses pressure at peak.
Whatever the fuel, we're the licensed gas contractor: regulator, piping, appliance setup, the Henderson County permit, and the pressure test. A showroom can sell the unit but can't legally connect it.
Builder-grade upgrades and a quick drive
A lot of those subdivision fireplaces are basic builder-grade boxes, and owners often upgrade to a sealed, better-heating unit — an easy swap when the home's already on the main.
