Who handles the electrical outlet needed for a fireplace insert or blower?
A licensed electrician handles the outlet — Steady Flame does the hearth and gas side, and we refer electrical out as its own licensed trade. Many gas units need a nearby receptacle for the blower or electronic ignition, so we tell you exactly where it has to go and coordinate the timing so it's roughed in before we set the unit.
What actually needs power
Not every unit needs an outlet. Blowers and electronic-ignition systems — like Heat & Glo's IntelliFire or the IntelliFire Touch on a Majestic Meridian — do need a receptacle nearby. But a good number of the units we install run on millivolt or battery-backup ignition, which means gas heat even with the grid down. A Valor H5 runs with zero electricity, and Napoleon's battery-backup ignition kept homes warm through the multi-day outages after Helene. If outage-proof heat is your priority, we'll steer you toward those and the outlet becomes for the blower only.
Who does what
We specify the outlet — where it sits, usually tucked behind or beside the firebox, and what it needs to be — and a licensed electrician installs it.
