Ranch-house fireboxes ready for an upgrade
A lot of Clyde is 1960s-through-'80s ranch and split-level builds, and the fireplaces in them are showing their age — dated prefab or masonry boxes that don't put much heat in the room. That's prime territory for an upgrade: drop a sealed gas insert into an existing firebox and it becomes a real heater, or add a Novus nXt 36 direct-vent unit where you want a clean sealed fire. Either way, 26,000 BTU of controllable heat beats a tired open box that mostly warms the chimney.
