Why can't I buy some fireplace brands online — which brands are dealer-only?

Premium hearth brands are sold dealer-only on purpose — the manufacturer requires a trained, licensed installer to sell and set up the unit so it stays safe and warrantied. Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Kozy Heat, Valor, Mendota, Majestic, Regency and most serious lines are dealer-only. Big-box and online listings skew toward budget, DIY-friendly models.

Why the best fireboxes never hit a shopping cart

A gas fireplace isn't a lamp you plug in — it burns fuel, vents combustion, and in North Carolina it has to be connected by a licensed gas contractor who pulls a permit and pressure-tests the line. Manufacturers of the serious lines know a firebox sold to a stranger and installed by a weekend DIYer is a lawsuit and a warranty headache waiting to happen. So they only ship to trained, vetted dealers who sell the unit, install it correctly, and stand behind it. It protects the brand's reputation — and it protects you.

The lines you'll only get through a dealer

Nearly every premium and mid-tier hearth brand is built around an authorized-dealer model: Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Kozy Heat, Valor, Mendota, Heatilator, Majestic, Regency, and Superior all route serious buyers to a showroom rather than an open cart. The flagship units — the ones with the best flame, the real heat output, and the full warranty — you'll see burning on a dealer floor, not shipped in a box. What does show up on budget listings tends to be entry-level product built to be self-installed, with thinner support behind it. If a brand's best firebox is one click away with no dealer involved, that tells you something about where it sits.

What that means in Western North Carolina

Here it's not just brand policy — it's law. A showroom, a mason, or a handyman can hand you a beautiful box, but they legally can't connect it to fuel; running or extending a gas line is licensed work. We can, and we permit and pressure-test every line we run through Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, or Transylvania county. Buy dealer-only and you get the appliance, the venting, the gas line, the permit, and one accountable company — instead of a pallet on your porch and a hunt for someone licensed to make it burn. Come see the lines burning in our Asheville showroom, or call (828) 545-0525.
