Are there rebates or change-out programs for replacing an old wood stove?
Not through any current program in Madison County. Change-out incentives are temporary and none is running here now, and Marshall's real challenge is usually physical, not financial. Steep hillside lots and narrow multi-story downtown buildings built against the mountainside make simply getting an old stove out and a new one in the hard part of any swap.
Access is the local variable
Down along the French Broad gorge, Marshall's homes cling to steep ground with limited access, and the revitalized downtown is a row of tall, narrow buildings set into the hillside. Moving a heavy old stove down a bank or up three floors, then routing a new flue where the mountainside crowds the chimney, takes planning that a lower, flatter town never needs.
The gorge also brings cool, damp evenings and tricky draft, so we look closely at chimney routing to make sure the replacement pulls properly on those still, wet nights.
Where a rebate would appear
For Madison County, a legitimate change-out incentive would show through NC DEQ's Division of Air Quality and the county office, occasionally an HPBA dealer campaign. We don't administer a rebate and won't dangle one. If a real program is active, we'll point you to it.
