Maggie Valley, North Carolina

Are there rules for where the propane tank can be placed when adding a propane fireplace?

Maggie Valley is propane-only — there's no gas main at 3,000 feet — so every gas fireplace here runs off a tank. Placement follows NFPA 58 setbacks from the house, openings, ignition sources, and the property line, but on steep cabin lots the real puzzle is finding a legal spot the fill truck can still reach in winter. Your supplier sites it; we connect the gas.

Steep lots, winter access

Most of Maggie Valley's cabins and vacation rentals sit on grades, and a tank has to do two things at once: hold its setback distances and stay reachable for the propane truck when there's snow on the ground. A spot that's fine in July can be a problem in January. Your propane company will pick a location that clears the building and property line and keeps the fill route drivable, which sometimes means a bench cut into the slope rather than the obvious flat corner. Keep that snow-fill access in the plan from day one.

Idle then instant

These homes sit empty for weeks, then have to light on the first click for arriving guests — a rental that won't heat on arrival is a booking lost. That's a case for a sealed direct-vent unit and a reliable tank supply, and for a pre-season inspection before the peak rental months. Your supplier owns the tank; Steady Flame runs the licensed piping, sets the regulator, and connects the appliance. In North Carolina that fuel work is licensed — a showroom can't do it. We permit with Haywood County and pressure-test the line.

Forty minutes west

As one of the coldest communities we serve, Maggie Valley leans on its hearths hard. Kozy Heat and Valor are strong cold-climate picks up here — Valor even runs without electricity. We're forty minutes west of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free assessment and we'll coordinate the tank spot with your propane company.
