Are there rules for where the propane tank can be placed when adding a propane fireplace?

In Marshall, propane-tank placement is as much about terrain as about the NFPA 58 setbacks from the house, openings, ignition sources, and the property line. On these steep hillside lots and tight downtown parcels built against the mountainside, finding a spot that meets clearances and lets the delivery truck reach it is the real work. Your supplier sizes and sites it.

When the lot is a hillside

Marshall's homes cling to steep ground, and the multi-story downtown buildings sit right against the mountain with almost no yard. That makes tank siting a genuine puzzle: the clearances from the building, the property line, and any ignition source still have to be met, and the propane truck still has to get close enough to fill it. Sometimes the answer is a leveled bench, a smaller tank tucked where a 500-gallon won't fit, or a buried tank on the one workable shelf of ground. On a lot this tight, a smaller tank filled more often can beat forcing a big one where it won't clear. Your propane company solves that layout.

Tight lots, licensed work

Tight sites also complicate the gas line and the chimney draft, and that's our lane. Steady Flame runs the licensed piping from the regulator to the fireplace and makes the appliance connection; your propane supplier owns the tank and its placement. In North Carolina, fueling a firebox is licensed work a showroom or mason legally can't do. We pull the Madison County permit and pressure-test the line — and on a cramped lot, a sealed direct-vent unit that vents out a sidewall sidesteps a hard chimney run.
