Can I buy a fireplace online and hire a local dealer to install it?
In Sylva, we'll almost always decline to install a fireplace bought online — and for the landlords renting near Western Carolina, the liability math is worse, not better. A hearth in a rental unit needs a valid warranty and a licensed, inspected install behind it, none of which comes with a box ordered off a website and handed to whoever will hook it up.
Rental fireboxes are a liability question, not a bargain
A lot of Sylva's housing is student and faculty rental stock near WCU — heavily used and, honestly, inconsistently maintained. A landlord tempted to drop an online-bought firebox into a rental to save money is taking on the opposite of savings: no manufacturer warranty if it wasn't bought through an authorized dealer, and full liability on a gas appliance in someone else's home. When we supply and install it, the coverage is intact, the install is permitted and inspected, and there's one accountable company behind it.
River-valley moisture, and historic Dillsboro
The Tuckasegee valley's cold-air drainage and river moisture rust dampers and degrade flue liners fast, and the historic homes over in Dillsboro have older masonry chimneys that need a real look before anything vents into them. That on-site assessment — is the flue sound, does a sealed direct-vent make more sense — is exactly what a webpage can't do. Sylva runs on mixed fuel, so the unit also has to be configured for your actual supply, natural gas or propane.
Fifty minutes out — so who touches it matters
Sylva is a solid fifty minutes from our Asheville showroom, which is exactly why you want the company that sold the unit to be the one that installs and services it — not a stitched-together job where a callback means chasing three different people. Connecting the gas is licensed work; we pull the permit with your county, meet the inspector, and stand behind our workmanship. Call (828) 545-0525.
