Can I mount a TV above a gas fireplace?
Usually yes — but it depends on the fireplace. Modern cool-wall linear units, like the Heat & Glo Cosmo 42, are built so heat exits the front and the wall above stays cool enough for a TV. Traditional radiant models need a mantel, the right gap, and often a heat management kit to protect the screen. We match the unit to your wall.
It comes down to where the heat goes
Every gas fireplace makes heat; the question is whether that heat rolls up the face of the wall where your TV would hang. Older radiant-style units do exactly that, which is why a TV slapped above one can run hot. The newer generation of linear and cool-wall designs are engineered to push warmth out the front of the glass instead, keeping the chase above cooler. If a TV-over-fireplace wall is the goal, we start by picking a unit built for it rather than fighting one that isn't.
Mantels, gaps, and heat management
On units that do send heat upward, three things make a TV safe: a mantel that shelves the heat away from the screen, enough vertical gap above it, and — when you want the TV lower than clearances allow — a manufacturer heat management kit that ducts hot air off the firebox and vents it elsewhere. Skip those and the screen bakes over a season or two. We size all three to the specific model's published clearances, not a guess.
Plan it before the drywall
The clean, wires-hidden TV-over-fireplace look is a framing-stage job — power and data for the TV, the heat management ducting, and the right rough opening all get roughed in before finishes. We see homeowners around Asheville and Hendersonville try to add the TV after the wall's closed up and end up opening it back up. Let us plan the whole wall once.
