Can I see fireplaces burning in a showroom before I buy?
Yes, and Clyde homeowners usually come to see an insert lit, because the 1960s-to-80s ranch houses here are full of dated fireplaces ready for an upgrade. It's a 25-minute drive to our Asheville showroom, where you can watch a sealed insert burn inside a display opening and see what it'll do for a tired ranch firebox.
The Ranch Fireplace, Modernized
Clyde's ranch-style builds mostly came with plain, dated fireboxes — some open masonry, some end-of-life prefab — that were never efficient heaters. A sealed gas or wood insert drops into that opening and turns it into something that actually warms the room. Inserts commonly run 70 percent efficient or better, versus an open fireplace that can lose net heat.
Come see one running in a display firebox. The jump from the dim, drafty original to a tight, glassed-in burn is the kind of thing you have to witness to appreciate.
River Humidity Is Hard on Old Hearths
Sitting in the Pigeon valley with Canton and Waynesville, Clyde shares their cold-air drainage and river humidity, and that damp air rusts dampers and degrades masonry chimneys faster than you'd think. If your flue is going, an insert with a properly sized liner — or a sealed direct-vent unit — is often the smarter path than a masonry repair.
Clyde is mixed-fuel, gas in parts and propane toward the edges; tell us which you have. We're licensed for the gas side and pull the Haywood County permit.
Plan the Trip
Twenty-five minutes each way is worth one prepared visit. Bring photos of the fireplace and rough measurements of the opening — inserts must be sized to it. If you're ready, we can add a free in-home assessment. No obligation. Call (828) 545-0525.
