A dated open firebox burned no gas; drop in a sealed insert and you add a fuel load to a house whose gas meter or propane regulator was sized long ago. Ranch-era systems meet a modern insert
When these ranches were built, the gas service — natural gas nearer town, propane out toward Fines Creek and Crabtree — was sized to the appliances of the day. A modern heat-producing insert adds a burner that draws alongside the furnace and water heater. It's a modest load, but 'modest' still has to fit under the meter's stamped capacity or the regulator's rated flow, so we total your real connected BTUs first rather than assume decades-old service left slack. No two ranches on the same street were plumbed identically.
Damp valley, aging components
Clyde shares Canton and Waynesville's cold-air drainage, and Pigeon-valley river humidity rusts dampers and degrades chimney components early — so an insert install here is a good moment to inspect the whole fuel path, not just add the appliance.
