Mills River, North Carolina

Do fireplace brands make high-altitude kits, and do I need one for a mountain home?

Across Mills River's rural large-lot properties, many homes run on propane, and plenty of the work here is outdoor — fire pits and patio features. At 2,096 feet you're low enough that some gas brands need no altitude de-rate, but propane's own orifices still have to be right. We size fuel and elevation together for your exact unit.

Propane country with room to spread out

Between the farmland and forest, a lot of Mills River sits past the gas mains and runs on propane. That already means LP-specific orifices, and at just over 2,000 feet the high-altitude question is usually a light one — many brands need no de-rate this low, though a few start here. Either way, propane and elevation get sorted in the same setup rather than left to chance and discovered later as a sooty flame.

Outdoor fire in an open valley

Mills River's open valley is built for outdoor living, and a lot of what we install here is a gas fire pit or a patio feature to stretch those cool mountain evenings. Outdoor gas units on propane get the same orifice attention as an indoor fireplace — the physics of altitude doesn't stop at the back door. Late spring, before entertaining season, is the right time to plan one so it's ready and burning clean when you want it.

Henderson County, licensed and buried right

Outdoor gas lines are buried, outdoor-rated, and licensed work — not a job for a landscaper. We pull the Henderson County permit, run and pressure-test the line, and set any high-altitude kit the appliance calls for. Same goes for an indoor conversion: one licensed crew owns the appliance, the gas, and the permit end to end. We're twenty-five minutes south of the Asheville showroom.
