Do Valor fireplaces really work without electricity or a blower?
Yes — that's the whole point of Valor. Its fireplaces run on a millivolt system with no blower, no fan, and no circuit board, so the flame lights and keeps producing radiant heat even with the power out. How a Valor heats with the grid down
Most gas fireplaces have some electricity in them somewhere — an electronic ignition, a blower, a circuit board. Valor took the opposite path. The H5 uses a standing-pilot millivolt system: the pilot flame itself generates the tiny bit of voltage the gas valve needs, so there's nothing to plug in and nothing to fail when the power goes. It's radiant heat — warmth radiates off the glass and firebox into the room rather than being pushed by a fan.
Because there's no blower, a Valor is also silent. No hum, no click of a fan cycling on and off — just fire. That's a real quality-of-life difference in a quiet living room or bedroom.
Why this matters in Western North Carolina
We don't have to sell anyone in these mountains on backup heat anymore. Hurricane Helene knocked power out across WNC for days, and the homes that stayed warm were the ones with a working wood or gas hearth. Central heat stops the second the grid does. A Valor doesn't — it'll keep throwing warmth through a full grid-down week on natural gas or propane.

The tradeoff worth knowing
No blower is a feature, not a flaw — but it does change how the heat moves. A fan-forced unit pushes warm air across a big open floor plan faster; a radiant Valor warms the space it faces and the people in front of it, more like a wood stove. In a normal-sized room that's plenty. In a cavernous great room where you want to move heat a long way, we might point you toward a different model, and we'll tell you that straight.
