Yes — and for one thing in particular, Valor is the best gas brand we carry: heat during a power outage. Valor's whole design philosophy is radiant heat without electricity. Where most gas fireplaces lean on a blower and a circuit board to move and manage heat, a Valor like the H5 uses a millivolt pilot system — the pilot generates the tiny bit of power the valve needs — and radiates warmth directly into the room. The H5 modulates from 24,000 BTU down to about 9,000 and, in our experience, keeps throwing warmth through a full grid-down week. In the mountains, where Helene left homes without power for days, that's the difference between a warm house and a cold one.

Honesty first: Valor's strengths come with tradeoffs. No blower means heat radiates rather than blasts, so it warms the room it's in beautifully but won't push air down a hallway the way a fan-forced unit does. If you specifically want a big, fan-driven great-room heater or a particular modern linear look, another brand we carry might fit better — Heat & Glo for a great-room anchor, Napoleon for battery-backup convenience.
