Does it matter whether I lease or own my propane tank when adding a fireplace?

Lease-versus-own only enters the picture on the outlying estates running propane. Where it does, a leased tank ties you to a supplier while an owned tank leaves the choice to you.
Historic homes, main-gas conversions
Flat Rock's housing stock runs back to the 1800s — grand old homes with oversized open masonry fireplaces and clay flue liners well past their prime. Because the village is served by the natural-gas main, converting one of those cavernous, drafty fireboxes to a sealed gas insert generally means tying into natural gas, so no propane tank is involved and the leasing question simply doesn't arise. That conversion does two jobs at once: it stops the open hearth from pulling cold air into the room, and it gives you real, controllable heat while preserving the mantel and surround that make these homes what they are. The propane conversation is reserved for estates on the edges of the district that sit beyond the main.

Where a Flat Rock property does run off a tank, the lease-versus-own split works the usual way. Lease it and the supplier maintains and recertifies the equipment but governs the connection and fuel source; own it and you gain supplier freedom while taking on the upkeep.
