Does it matter whether I lease or own my propane tank when adding a fireplace?

In Weaverville it depends where you're building or living. The new Reems Creek construction usually ties to the natural-gas main — no tank, no lease question. Older downtown and rural Ox Creek homes are more often on propane, where it does matter. And if you're building, the smartest move is deciding lease-versus-own before the tank is ever set.

New construction versus older homes

Weaverville is splitting into two housing stories, and they answer this question differently. The rapid new construction filling Reems Creek generally connects to the natural-gas main, so those homes never touch a propane tank and the leasing question is moot. The older downtown homes with their original masonry fireboxes, and the rural places out Ox Creek and Barnardsville Road, are the ones more likely on propane — and there lease-versus-own shapes who we coordinate with. If you're partway through a build, this is the moment to decide: setting an owned tank versus a leased one is far cleaner before the slab and lines go in than after everything's finished.

What each choice locks in

Leasing hands your supplier the tank's maintenance and recertification but lets them set terms on the connection and, usually, on where you buy fuel. Owning frees you to compare suppliers and add appliances without a lease dictating anything, at the cost of carrying the upkeep yourself. This north-facing valley warms slowly in spring, so the fireplace runs a good stretch of the year — worth sizing the tank to. Whichever you pick, our part is the same: size the gas line, permit through Buncombe County, meet the inspector, pressure-test the run. Weaverville is fifteen minutes north of the showroom.
