How long are fireplace lead times before winter, and how early should I order?
Plan on several weeks from decision to first fire, and pick your unit by late summer to stay ahead of winter. An in-stock model we install can move quickly — often the install itself is a single day — but a special-order unit, a new gas line, a chimney, and the county permit and inspection each add time. By October the whole valley is booking at once.
What eats the calendar
A few things stretch a timeline, and they stack. There's the lead time to get us out for the assessment. There's unit availability — a model displayed and stocked moves fast, a special-order one adds weeks. There's the permit turnaround with Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, or Transylvania. There's the install itself: many gas jobs finish in a day, wood and chimney work runs two to three. And there's scheduling the inspector at the end.
None of these are long on their own. Together, in fall, they add up — especially when everyone hits us at the same time.
The practical rule: give yourself six to eight weeks
For most gas installs, six to eight weeks of runway is comfortable. Give yourself more if you're eyeing a special-order model or a wood-burning fireplace with a chimney build. Book the free assessment in summer and you're working with time on your side instead of against it.
Homes up the mountain roads and on the ridges should start even earlier — the cold arrives there first, so your effective deadline is sooner than a valley home's.
Beat the fall crunch
Every year the same thing happens: people wait until they're cold, then everyone calls the same week. Getting on the calendar early is the difference between choosing your install date and taking whatever's left.
