When should I schedule a fireplace installation to be sure it's done before cold weather?

That leaves room for the in-home assessment, any special-order unit, the county permit, the gas line, and the inspection without anyone rushing. Start earlier if it's a wood or chimney job.
Count backwards from your first fire
Work the timeline in reverse. A fireplace project moves through an in-home assessment, unit selection, the permit with your county, the install itself, and a final inspection. An in-stock unit we install is quick — often the install is a single day — but a special-order model adds weeks, and a new gas line or chimney adds work on top.
Many gas installs wrap in a day; wood-burning and chimney jobs typically run two to three days. Build a buffer for each stage and you land your first fire on time instead of hoping.
Why elevation moves your deadline up
Cold doesn't arrive everywhere in WNC on the same date. A home up around Cashiers, Burnsville, or the higher cabins gets its first frost weeks before south Asheville or Hendersonville down in the valleys. If you're up on a ridge or up a mountain road, treat late summer as your firm target, not December.
