Mars Hill, North Carolina

When should I schedule a fireplace installation to be sure it's done before cold weather?

In Mars Hill, aim for a late-summer install — and if you rent to Mars Hill University students, do the work over summer break before the term fills the house. It's one of the colder spots we serve at 2,350 feet, and the rural valleys nearby run on propane or wood, so both the calendar and the fuel argue for an early start.

Two Mars Hills, one deadline

There are two housing worlds here. Around the university, easy-to-use gas fireplaces are the practical pick for rentals — set-it-and-forget-it heat that holds up to student use — and the natural window to install or update one is summer break, before the academic year returns. Out in Spring Creek, Gabriels Creek, and Forks of Ivy, homes lean on propane or wood, which means a different setup and, for wood, a two-to-three-day chimney job rather than a one-day gas drop.

Whichever you have, the town's higher, colder position means the season opens early — treat late summer as the target, not a fallback. Homes up the higher hollows feel the first frost sooner still.

Propane and wood want lead time

The rural side of Mars Hill is propane-and-wood country, and both add steps a gas-main town skips. Propane means coordinating the tank with your supplier and setting the appliance for LP; wood means a Class A chimney and a longer install. If you're converting or adding a wood stove or fireplace, that scope alone is reason to start in midsummer. As the licensed gas contractor, we handle the propane connection, permit it with Madison County, and meet the inspector.

Mars Hill is about 30 minutes north of the Asheville showroom, and a Regency wood option is built for the long, cold nights out here. Call (828) 545-0525 to set up a free in-home assessment and get ahead of the cold.
